Events Calendar
Term Four

On Wednesday 11th November, Room 15 had its first Open Evening. This was well attended with parents coming from Totara Hill Preschool, Small Steps and Montessori Beginnings in Stanmore Bay, as well as other local interest. For many, this was a great opportunity to meet Jane, see first hand how a Montessori Primary class operates and view the teaching materials the children use.
Jane started the evening with an informative slide show which showed the children's daily activities and their use of Montessori equipment. The Stamp Game amazed many parents by showing how 6 and 7 year old children are able to master long division with large numbers.
The evening concluded with some parents taking the opportunity to have a go with the teaching materials themselves and have their questions answered.
Term Three Social Event
On Friday 7th August the families of the children in Room 15 had a great time at The Range. The children (and a few game parents!) got to try out their golf skills. Obviously some hidden talents were discovered . . . Then we enjoyed a lovely fish and chips dinner from Oceanz at the Tahi Bar. A fun evening!
Class Observations - Parent Interviews
The beginning of May saw many of our parents grab the chance to observe the class in action.
For some, this was their first opportunity to see the children using the amazing Montessori equipment and working as independent learners and it was a moving experience. Parent interviews followed in mid May which allowed parents some one on one time with Jane to discuss their child's learning in more detail.
This was a most beneficial experience and parents are already looking forward to next time.
AGM
Our first AGM was held on Wednesday 29th April and we were pleased to look back over what we have accomplished in our first year. The Montessori class is a welcoming, happy place which has integrated almost seamlessly into Matakana School.
The Trust congratulates Leeanne Robertson and Karen Grice. We're delighted that Leeanne was elected as a Trustee. Showing great flexibility, she will be involved in many areas of Trust life, utilising her many organisational skills where required. Based on Karen Grice's very significant contribution to date, she was invited to fill the role of Communications Manager. Her level of expertise and enthusiasm is most welcome and she will be responsible for all aspects of Trust communications.
Finally, the AGM was concluded when the aims of the Trust over the next twelve months had been clearly outlined. We all look forward to being part of this next exciting phase as the class grows and flourishes.
